Project Name: Penrose Dock Location: Penrose Quay, Co. Cork Client: 2020 Glazing Architect: Wilson Architecture Value: € 26 Million Project Status: Ongoing 2019 Services Provided: CWCT Sequence B Testing.

The development is 34,626m² in size and consists of the construction/refurbishment of state-of-the-art scientific facilities, incorporating new atria designed to fully integrate into both the existing and new Science Centre Buildings. This project has achieved a BREEAM Excellent Rating at Design Stage.

BET were initially employed as specialist consultants to review the external envelope work packages and advise the design team before construction commenced. We were subsequently engaged to carry out site audits of the ongoing works, working closely with their airtightness supervisor/foreman on site. The speed of construction, complexity of the building and size of the project resulted in 1 x monthly inspection intervals.

28,800 m2 of state of the art bio-medical laboratory designed as an exemplar low energy building. The building incorporates many interesting features including a retained façade and high performance double and tripled glazed curtain walling systems. The project was completed in November 2011.

BET were appointed to provide design stage training to the project team together with a comprehensive review of the architectural drawings and specifications. During the construction of the project BET provided onsite training to the main contractor and specialist sub-contractors.

Using a high performance curtain walling system and fully air conditioned the extremely onerous airtightness performance targets set by the design team for the new office buildings at Simmons Court initially raised some eyebrows! With the designers targets in mind BET provided tailored specialist training to the construction team at the start of the project on site.
